    Keywords: Artificial groundwater recharge
Abstract: Artificial Recharge of Groundwater focuses on artificial recharge of groundwater basins as a means to increase the natural supply of groundwater, along with the technical issues involved. Special emphasis is placed on the use of reclaimed municipal wastewater as a source for artificial recharge of groundwater. This book is comprised of 26 chapters organized into five sections. After reviewing the state of the art of artificial recharge of groundwater, the discussion turns to the fundamental aspects of groundwater recharge, including the role of artificial recharge in groundwater basin management, recharge methods, hydraulics, monitoring, and modeling. The next section considers pretreatment processes for wastewater and renovation of wastewater with rapid-infiltration land treatment systems and describes the health effects of wastewater reuse in groundwater recharge. A number of artificial recharge operations using reclaimed wastewater are then highlighted, focusing on cases in various countries including Israel, Germany, Poland, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United States. The remaining chapters look at the extent of contaminant removal by the soil system and the fate of micropollutants during groundwater recharge as well as the legal and economic aspects of groundwater recharge. Research needs for groundwater quality management are also explored. This monograph is written for civil and sanitary engineers, agricultural engineers, hydrologists, environmental scientists, and research scientists as well as public works officials, consulting engineers, agriculturalists, industrialists, and students at colleges and universities

Abstract: Water Pollution Control in Asia documents the proceedings of the Second IAWPRC Asian Conference on Water Pollution Control, held in Bangkok, Thailand, 9-11 November 1988. The conference brings together the various factors that must be considered when investigating the development of water supply and control of sewage disposal systems, especially for small villages or towns and large communities in Asia which are situated too far from a piped system of water supply, thus requiring its own sources treatment and sewage disposal. The contributions made by researchers at the conference are organized into seven parts. Part 1 examines the various aspects of water quality management. The papers in Part 2 deal with the analysis and cleanup of river, lake, and marine pollution. Part 3 discusses the treatment of human waste while Part 4 is devoted to industrial waste treatment approaches. Part 5 focuses on water treatment methods. Part 6 contains studies on water reuse and groundwater contamination. The papers in Part 7 cover various topics such as wastewater management in developing countries and the treatment of phenolic wastewater using rotating biological contactors

Abstract: A Guide to Internal Loss Prevention provides an analysis of loss prevention factors from the inside looking out, rather than the outside looking in, bringing to management's attention specific organizational areas that may be contributing to internal loss. It is the authors' intent to demonstrate that management personnel often do not pay attention to essential details, and that this laxity, carelessness, or deliberate negligence is costing both industry and the consuming public billions of dollars annually in needless added costs. This book is organized by recognizable business functions rather than by type of organization. Key topics discussed include the administrative, financial, management, production area, personnel, and safety considerations of loss prevention. White collar crime, computer security, and information security are also covered. Where possible, case studies are supplied to clearly depict an actual loss situation, so that management sees how it can happen. An attempt is made to identify loss-producing situations, their possible causes, their effects, and finally, recommendations for remedies that may enable management to prevent recurrences, thereby saving money and ultimately profits

Abstract: Thermal and Energetic Studies of Cellular Biological Systems reviews literature on thermal and energetic changes which occur in living organisms. It was commissioned at the suggestion of Dr. Philip Edge of John Wright & Sons and was a natural successor to the 1980 book Biological Microcalorimetry. This volume is restricted to a discussion of energy changes in cellular systems. This book is organized into nine chapters. Each author presents a concise, up-to-date account of his field of expertise. Their topics include the usefulness of calorimetric methods in ecological studies, growth and metabolism in bacteria and yeasts, metabolism and heat dissipation in whole tissues or organs, and animal cells and energy requirements in biological systems. This book will be of interest to people seeking a non-destructive technique for studying cellular system and it can serve as a guide and a reference book to those already active in the field

Abstract: This classic work provides a richly textured overview of the "whys" and "hows" of brief therapy. The authors identify the central features of effective, time-limited interventions for individuals, couples, families, and groups. Taking a developmental approach to treatment, they explain how brief therapy can help at different times in a patient's life, as changes and transitions bring on new stresses and challenges. A practical framework is provided for selecting and screening patients, rapidly finding a focus for clinical work, and making optimal use of available time. Case examples and extensive transcripts are included to illustrate the use of strategies and techniques drawn from many different psychotherapy perspectives. Throughout, the focus is on creative and efficient ways to help patients build on existing strengths and make desired changes in their interactions with others

Abstract: Advances in Lipid Research, Volume 21 covers several significant and emerging areas in lipid metabolism, including apolipoprotein metabolism and leukotrienes. This book discusses the role of fat in the functioning of the immune system.Organized into eight chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the metabolism of apolipoprotein B, which is the principal protein of chylomicrons, very low density, and low density lipoprotein. This text then describes the metabolism, biosynthesis, and pharmacology of leukotrienes. Other chapters consider the relation of lipids to immunology and explain the roles played by lipids in the structure and function of yeast membrane. This book discusses as well the general importance in the plant kingdom and the place of some carotenoids in human biology. The final chapter deals with the influence of proteins on configuration and function of reconstituted lipid membranes. This book is a valuable resource for biologists, chemists, biochemists, scientists, and research workers

Abstract: Computer Programming Languages in Practice provides an overview of various computer programming languages. The book begins with the fundamentals: what programs are; how they are planned and organized; what elements of the computer the programmer controls; flowcharting; and how computer data is organized. It then discusses material common to all languages, including the entry program, the compiler, the run-time system, syntax diagrams, and coding forms. The largest portion of this book is devoted to two very popular languages-BASIC and COBOL. It provides a brief history of the language's development and use; a description of how the programming system is organized; its major components, divisions of instructions, and a description of its instruction set (instruction-by-instruction); how a program is written, including a sample program; and a self-test, including exercises in which programming statements must be written. The final chapter discusses those languages which the reader is less likely to use but should know about. Included are descriptions of FORTRAN and RPG II.

Keywords: Historic buildings Maintenance and repair
Abstract: Emergency Repairs for Historic Buildings is a compilation of 12 case studies that emphasize the necessity of emergency repairs for historic buildings in poor condition. These buildings are defined in this book as listed buildings in England, together with those which, although unlisted, add an historical dimension to their environment. Emergency repairs could consist of permanent or temporary work. Permanent work should always be carried out according to the best historic buildings practice. Temporary work is second best made necessary by lack of money but having the advantage of speed. In an emergency, this is sometimes the most important factor as decay spreads very quickly, especially in empty buildings. Chapter 2 of this book provides guidelines for temporary repair, which indicate that even this work should be the best quality of its kind. This book mainly relates to the great majority of buildings, rather than to major country houses, historic engineering works, or ancient monuments. This text is a useful and informative reference for individuals or students who conduct research on studies relating to architectural or historical arts
