To provide mechanical consistency to the gel a reinforcement by nanoclays is introduced in the polymer matrix. Four different suspensions of nanoparticles in the polymer solution are prepared in an adequate solvent. These suspensions are subjected to an electrospinning process to produce the nanofiber mat, while films are produced by casting. The influence of the process parameters over the nanofibers microstructure is analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effectiveness of nanoclay encapsulation in the nanocomposites is tested by a thermogravimetric analysis. A crosslinking reaction in solution is carried out to prevent the dissolution of the nanocomposites in aqueous media. A model protein (bovine serum albumin, BSA) is absorbed in the nanocomposites to characterize the release kinetics in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS).

    Notes: Summary Measurement of biotransformation activities in cells is of great importance for drug metabolism and toxicologic studies. It is currently done by measuring the enzymatic activities in partially purified microsomes. In the present work we report on a rapid, easy, sensitive, and reproducible fluorimetric assay for quantifying cytochrome P450-dependent monooxygenase activities (P450IA1, P450IIB1) in hepatocytes cultured in 96-well plates. The procedure involves the direct determination of enzymatic activities in intact hepatocytes while avoiding cell homogenization, thereby permitting use of a the reduced number of cells and allowing cultured cells to be used in later experiments. Substrates (7-ethoxyresorufin, 7-pentoxyresorufin) are added to culture medium and metabolized by hepatocytes. After enzymatic deconjugation, the fluorescent resorufin present in culture medium is quantified by means of a microplate fluorimetric reader. Major advantages of this technique, as compared to other available methods, are: a) no cell disruption is required; b) activity can be measured with a very small number of cells; c) rapid processing time; and d) possibility of performing repeated assays with the same cell monolayer.

    Notes: An experimental study is reported of the dependence of the melting temperature Tm on the crystallization temperature Tc for molecular weight fractions of poly(hexamethylene oxide) in the range from Mn=2260 to Mn=35 500, with attention to the level of crystallinity.It has been found that for the highest molecular weight fraction, at low levels of crystallinity, the extrapolated linear relation Tm vs. Tc yields an equilibrium melting temperature of 346,5K in very good accord with theoretical expectations. Moreover, the behaviour and theory for low-molecular-weight fractions is analyzed.The enthalpy of fusion for poly(hexamethylene oxide) has been determined from two kinds of experiments: by measuring calorimetrically the apparent heat of fusion at different levels of crystallinity, and by using the polymer-diluent method in decahydronaphthalene and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene. The enthalpy of fusion was found to be 54-57 cal/g (=226-238J/g).

    Notes: Chlorination under mild conditions of suspensions of polyethylene single crystals demonstrated that a selective attack on the fold surface takes place. Two polyethylene molecular weight fractions (Mn = 47000 and Mn = 150 000) were used and single crystals were grown isothermally from p-xylene at 88°C. The chlorine content was changed from 4 wt.-% to 30 wt.-% and to this level no evidence for crystal attack and loss of crystallinity was found. The melting temperatures of chlorinated single crystals decrease with increasing chlorination up to about 15 wt.-% chlorine content and then stay constant for higher chlorine contents. Moreover, the heat of melting of the chlorinated single crystals is constant and is independent of the chlorine content up to 25 wt.-%. These results are compared with those of samples of chlorinated polyethylene recrystallized from solution and from the melt.

    Notes: The dependence of the melting temperature on the crystallization temperature for low molecular weight fractions of poly(octamethylene oxide), (poly(oxyoctamethylene)), in the range from Mn = 3400 to Mn = 9 000, is analyzed. It is found that in this molecular weight region, the extrapolated linear relation melting temperature Tm vs. crystallization temperature Tc, for high levels of crystallinity yields an equilibrium temperature, which is in good accord with theoretical expectations; meanwhile the Tm vs. Tc relation for low levels of crystallinity leads to higher equilibrium temperatures. The equilibrium melting temperature corresponds to 356 K for Mn = 9 000 and the enthalpy of fusion was found to be 60,5 cal/g (= 253 J/g).

    Description: In this work we obtain analytical solutions for the electrical RLC circuit model defined with Liouville–Caputo, Caputo–Fabrizio and the new fractional derivative based in the Mittag-Leffler function. Numerical simulations of alternative models are presented for evaluating the effectiveness of these representations. Different source terms are considered in the fractional differential equations. The classical behaviors are recovered when the fractional order α is equal to 1.

    Description: Most formation models and numerical simulations cause a helical magnetic field to form, accelerate and collimate jets in active galactic nuclei (AGN). For this reason, observational direct evidence for the existence of these helical magnetic fields is of special relevance. In this work, we present ultra- high-resolution observations of the innermost regions of the jet in the quasar NRAO150. We study the polarization structure and report evidence of a helical magnetic field.
