Description: Agricultural land represents one of the most valuable natural resources of a country, being both a significant form of national wealth, and an important source of economic and political power. The land reform has been a constant presence in the policy promoted by the governments leading Romania after the year 1990. By its amplitude and importance this represented a study issue treated and debated in many scientific works. Though, there is in Romania, a more reduced concern as regards the territorial dimensions linked to the land reform. The goal of the present paper is to bring a contribution in this field. The analysis was concentrated on the following main dimensions: the ownership structure of the agricultural land fund, the farms' structure and the land market's features. Within the context of the bigger and bigger importance given to de-centralization, the territorial approach could contribute efficiently to the supporting of the sustainable rural development.

Description: In a globalized, knowledge-based economy, education and training is of great importance for increasing economic and social progress: an adequately trained workforce can face competition in terms of productivity, quality and innovation. According to Eurostat, Romania allocates less money to education than most European Union countries. These allocations reflect the low level of attention paid to the education and training system. This paper analyses the situation and trends that have been registered in the Romanian education system in the EU's postaccession period. The set of indicators has been selected to cover both education levels and the types of predominantly rural, intermediate and predominantly urban regions. The following dimensions were considered: participation in education, the human and material resources involved and, where possible, the results.

Description: The new challenges facing Eastern European rural and agricultural sector impose, among other things, a review of the links between knowledge production and its use to promote innovation. Given that, agriculture is the main source of livelihood for a large part of the rural population in Romania and Bulgaria and its development requires multiple interventions that include, inter alia, ensuring effective transfer of agricultural modern knowledge, technologies, methods and practices to the direct beneficiaries - farmers. Both in Romania and Bulgaria, agricultural knowledge generation (research), transfer (extension) and use (farmers as end users) passed during the post-socialist period through important changes. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the Agricultural Knowledge and Information System (AKIS), in the two countries, in terms of pursued objectives, structure and performed functions. Based on this analysis the authors synthesize the main lessons learned during the post-socialist period in the two countries, and outline the future direction of development of agricultural knowledge, production, transfer and use them in agreement with European requirements.
