New York, NY : : Routledge,
Keywords: Managerial accounting. ; Electronic books.
Description / Table of Contents: Establishing the need for the managerial accountant's compass -- Pan-theoretical approach to the managerial accountant's compass -- Concepts and classifications discourse of the managerial accountant's compass -- Importance of information and communication to the managerial accountant's compass -- Role, responsibilities, and, personal qualities of the managerial accountant that inform the managerial accountant's compass -- Performance standards for the managerial accountant that permeate the managerial accountant's compass -- Recommendations, decisions, and, judgments by the managerial accountant with the managerial accountant's compass -- Managerial accountant's compass and its context -- Four cardinal points of the managerial accountant's compass -- Ethical conduct with self-care as the fifth point of the managerial accountant's compass -- Evaluation & perspective: managerial accountant's compass.
Abstract: "This is the first detailed view of the managerial accountant's role and responsibilities in organization setting. Its aim is to foster role development: the opportunity to work at an advanced level of practice. Accounting studies develop technical skills associated with topics, and, responding to defined scenarios but provide very little guidance on what to recognizing and approaching the broad problems or challenges under conditions of uncertainty. It is a double first because it provides the managerial accountant's compass as a general purpose analytical framework for managerial accounting independent of any selected theory and method. The metaphor of a compass creates a mental schema for its four points named (1) goals and principles, (2) boundaries and constraints, (3) methods and models, and, (4) collegial relationships. Dynastic Chinese and some other Central Asian cultures, view the center as a fifth principal direction, giving a total of five points. The center represents a high standard ethical conduct and self-care, or moral compass. The managerial accountant's compass offers an integrated and systematic guide to approaching situations that are constantly changing. It gives a protective starting pattern which produces new meanings and awareness of the ambiguity and uncertainty for each situation. Ultimately the managerial accountant's compass can help you make more effective sense of yourself, your expertise and your practice in the organization where you work, which should open career opportunities"--

Abstract: "This very unique and very different book is a comprehensive study of the science of small arm ballistics--from interior and exterior ballistics to terminal ballistics. The science of small arms ballistics is seriously underdeveloped and underappreciated. The volume provides a complete grasp of the entire subject. It fills a legitimate need for a book that covers the entire science of small arm ballistics. The Science of Small Arms Ballistics serves as a manual for both members of academia and members of the recreational shooting community throughout the world. Though it contains extensive mathematical formulas (58 of them), the book demonstrates the relationships between the physical variables and their real-world engineering applications. The author defines the science of ballistics by breaking it down into its major and logical categories and then explaining the basic patterns and relationships in a way the reader can understand and use toward the solution of problems, either to design ammunition for a particular gun or a gun for any particular ammunition. Through extensive research, the author has worked out relationships in the science of small arms ballistics mathematically and puts forth and explains new theories on small arms ballistics, such the field-effect and the field-effect over trajectory and time, along with new theories in interior, exterior, and terminal ballistics. This includes a scientific study of time, evolving from the study of the field-effect theory in exterior ballistics. Each equation, which describes a mathematical relationship, such as transfer of energy, will have an engineering application for the shooter with a design problem. Some equations, such as the calculation of bullet length with a given muzzle velocity and rate of twist, represent manipulations of those equations, such as the rate of twist and bullet spin. Some other equations represent a set of mathematical instructions to resolve a technical problem, such as the computation of trajectory or depth of penetration of living tissue in real-time. An exhaustive example is included to help the reader in the proper way to reload ammunition for a particular gun and its rate of twist, along with the formulas to calculate the ballistic parameters for this purpose, including several computer programs to calculate and predict these parameters. This revolutionary work, written by an acknowledged pioneer in the field, will be a rich resource for anyone interested in the engineering and theory of small arms ballistics."--Provided by publisher.

Abstract: "'Degrowth', a type of 'postgrowth', is becoming a strong political, practical and cultural movement for downscaling and transforming societies beyond capitalist growth and non-capitalist productivism to achieve global sustainability and satisfy everyone's basic needs. This groundbreaking collection on housing for degrowth addresses key challenges of unaffordable, unsustainable and anti-social housing today, including going beyond struggles for a 'right to the city' to a 'right to metabolism', advocating refurbishment versus demolition, and revealing controversies within the degrowth movement on urbanisation, decentralisation and open localism. International case studies show how housing for degrowth is based on sufficiency and conviviality, living a 'one planet lifestyle' with a common ecological footprint. This book explores environmental, cultural and economic housing and planning issues from interdisciplinary perspectives such as urbanism, ecological economics, environmental justice, housing studies and policy, planning studies and policy, sustainability studies, political ecology, social change and edgrowth. It will appeal to students and scholars across a wide range of disciplines"--

Abstract: This volume brings together a leading group of scholars to offer a new perspective on the history of conflicts and trade, focusing on the role of small and medium, or "weak", and often neutral states. Existing historiography has often downplayed the importance of such states in world trade, during armed conflicts, and as important agents in the expanding trade and global connections of the last 250 years. The country studies demonstrate that these states played a much bigger role in world and bilateral trade than has previously been assumed, and that this role was augmented by the emergence of truly global conflicts and total war. In addition to careful country or comparative studies, this book provides new data on trade and shipping during wars and examines the impact of this trade on the individual states' economies. It spans the period from the late 18th century to the First and Second World Wars and the Cold War of the 20th century, a crucial period of change in the concept and practice of neutrality and trade, as well as periods of transition in the nature and technology of warfare. This book will be of great interest to scholars of economic history, comparative history, international relations, and political science.

Abstract: This book presents an examination of the television series Nurse Jackie, making connections between the representational processes and the audience consumption of the series. A key point of reference is the political and performative potential of Nurse Jackie with regards to its progressive representation of prescription drug addiction and its relationship to the concept of quality television. It deconstructs Nurse Jackie's discursive potential, involving intersections with contemporary notions of genre, celebrity, self-reflexivity, therapy and feminism.

Abstract: "While so many books on technology look at new advances and digital technologies, The Routledge Companion to Media Technology and Obsolescence looks back at analog technologies that are disappearing, considering their demise and what it says about media history, pop culture, and the nature of nostalgia. From card catalogs and typewriters to stock tickers and cathode ray tubes, contributors examine the legacy of analog technologies, including those, like vinyl records, that may be experiencing a resurgency. Each essay includes a brief history of the technology leading up to its peak, an analysis of the reasons for its decline, and a discussion of its influence on newer technologies"--Provided by publisher.

Abstract: Despite over three decades of debate around the nature of human resource management (HRM), its intellectual boundaries and its application in practice, the field continues to be dogged by a number of theoretical and practical limitations. Written by an international team of respected scholars, this updated textbook adopts a critical perspective to examine the core management function of HRM in all its complexity -- including its darker sides. Human Resource Management: A Critical Approach opens with a critique of the very concept of HRM, tracing its development over time, and then systematically analyses the context of HRM, practice of HRM and international perspectives on HRM. New chapters commissioned for this second edition look at HRM and the issues of diversity, migration, global supply chains and economic crisis. This textbook is essential reading for advanced and inquisitive students of HRM, and for HRM professionals looking to deepen their understanding of the complexities of their field.

Abstract: There is increasing interest in accounting issues in China. Despite a relatively short history, China's stock market is the world's second largest. This growth has been accompanied by increasing demand for accounting information alongside reforms of accounting and auditing rules, as international investors have paid increasing attention to investment opportunities in this dynamic and energetic country with a large population and economic growth potentials. Despite this, at present there are few books which offer students, academics and practitioners a comprehensive guide to current accounting issues in China. The Routledge Companion to Accounting in China fills this important gap in the literature. The volume is organized in six thematic sections which cover capital market and corporate finance, financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, taxation and internal controls. The structure is intended to reflect the increasing diversity of contemporary accounting issues in China, including a balanced overview of current knowledge, identifying issues and discussing relevant debates. This book is a prestigious reference work which offers students, academics and practitioners an introduction to current accounting issues in the emerging market of China.

Abstract: This book is about the building of alliances and about joint activities between two groups of social movement actors ascribed increasing relevance for the functioning and the eventual amendment of democratic capitalism. The chapters provide a well-balanced mix of theoretical and empirical accounts on the political, social and economic catalysts behind the changing motives finding expression in a multitude of novel types of joint collective action and inter-organizational alliances. The contributors to this volume go beyond attempting to place unions, movements, crises, precariousness, protests and coalitions at the centre of the research. Instead, they focus on actors who themselves transcend clear-cut social camps. They look at the values and motives underlying collective action by both types of actors as much as at their structural and strategic properties, and inter-organizational relations and networks. This creates a fresh, genuine and historically valid account of the incompatibilities and the commonalities of movements and unions, and of prospects for inter-organizational learning. --

Abstract: "New Directions in Mobile Media and Performance explores various performative projects and forms of expression that have emerged since the onset of the smartphone. It focuses mainly on new concepts and developments that have emerged in mobile media performance. It showcases the intimate and phenomenological mobile aesthetic that has been unfolding within networked performance and media art projects for over a decade and a half. This aesthetic utilises the potential and affordances with each iteration and update of modern smartphones. Themes of embodiment, presence, liveness and connection through mobile, networked, and remote technology are revisited in the context of HD mobile cameras, selfies and live video streaming from the phone, as well as the impact of peer production, opensource and Maker culture on mobile media performance practices. It explores the surge in development of wearable devices in performance, as well as how the 'quantified-self movement' has affected performance works. It deals with concepts and developments in intermedial performance that incorporate mobile and wearable devices, especially from the artist's, designer's or dramaturge's perspective as the creator and their creative process, working with technology as a collaborator, not just a tool or guide."--Provided by publisher.

Abstract: Real Estate and GIS focuses on the application of geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping technologies in the expanding property and real estate discipline. Whilst a thorough understanding of location is understood to be fundamental to the property discipline, real estate professionals and students have yet to harness the full potential of spatial analysis and mapping in their work. This book demonstrates the crucial role that technological advances can play in collecting, organising and analysing large volumes of real estate data in order to improve decision-making.International case studies, chapter summaries and discussion questions make this book the perfect textbook for property and applied GIS courses. Property and real estate professionals including surveyors, valuers, property developers, urban economists and financial analysts will also find this book an invaluable guide to the understanding and application of GIS technology within a real estate industry context.

Description / Table of Contents: What exactly is success? -- The foundations of success -- How success works -- What makes managers stumble? -- The most dangerous career traps -- Resilience : the art of getting back up -- Mastering what life throws at you -- Epilogue.
Abstract: "This book is about the rules of long-term professional success. The international study on which this book is based suggests that success is, above all, one thing: the quest for a combination of happiness and satisfaction, coupled with economic independence. However, the data also suggest that the definition of success varies significantly from person to person. And furthermore, it seems like success is not an objective quality, but at least partly it results from a process of comparison with a peer group - which means in turn that the selection of your peer group is crucial for your perceived level of success in life. The author argues that, in fact, certain success factors do exist and that they are fewer in number than one might think. But above all, if we look thoroughly at the lives of truly successful people, it soon becomes apparent that success primarily has to do with overcoming setbacks, failure and crisis. This ability to effectively process adversity is also known as resilience. Because of its criticality for success this concept is discussed in greater depth using the FiRE model (Factors improving Resilience Effectiveness) as a structure. This concept has been developed by the author through many years of research. It differs from existing models due to its holistic approach including analysing different disciplines of science such as biology, medicine, brain research, epigenetics, sociology, psycho-neuro-immunology etc.

Keywords: Communication in ethnology. ; Ethnology Qualitative research. ; Public anthropology. ; Electronic books.
Description / Table of Contents: The need for a public ethnography -- What is public ethnography and whom is it good for? -- Why and how more ethnographers are seeking broader audiences -- Beyond representation -- Losing bad habits -- Sensuous scholarship -- Learning from documentary film -- Enlivening ethnography : in search of a more-than-representational style -- Writing in magazines and blogs -- Multimodal ethnography -- Working with audio -- Working with images -- The basics of shooting and editing video -- Sharing videos.
Abstract: "Ethnography and qualitative research methodology in general have witnessed a staggering proliferation of styles and genres over the last three decades. Modes and channels of communication have similarly expanded and diversified. Now ethnographers have the opportunity to disseminate their work not only through traditional writing but also through aural, visual, performative, hypertext and many diverse and creative multimodal documentation strategies. Yet, many ethnographers still feel insufficiently proficient with these new literacies and opportunities for knowledge mobilization, and therefore still limit themselves to traditional modes of communication in spite of their desire for innovation. As university-based, community-driven and politically-mandated agendas for broader knowledge transfer keep increasing worldwide, the demand for public scholarship continues to grow. Arguing for the need to disseminate innovative ethnographic knowledge more widely and more effectively, this book outlines practical strategies and tools for sharing ethnographic and qualitative research through widely accessible media such as magazines, trade books, blogs, newspapers, video, radio, and social media. Drawing from practical experiences and hands-on lessons, Doing Public Ethnography provides social scientists across all disciplines with concrete tactics for mobilizing knowledge beyond the academic realm"--
