    Description / Table of Contents: Summary A method of project scheduling with stochastic networks is shown in a discrete version. It yields an upper bound for the expected delay of a given project completion time. The numerical complexity of the implemented procedure is given. By means of two examples the results of the numerical implementation are summarized. The accuracy and practicability can be seen by comparing these results to those of an exact solution and a PERT-solution.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Es wird ein Verfahren der Projektplanung mit Hilfe von stochastisch bewerteten Netzplänen vorgestellt. Dieses Verfahren berechnet eine obere Schranke für den Erwartungswert der Überschreitung eines Projektendterminst. Anhand zweier Beispiele werden die Ergebnisse aus einer numerischen Implementation des Verfahrens zusammengefaßt und Anhaltspunkte zur Genauigkeit, Effizienz und praktischen Anwendbarkeit — durch einen Vergleich mit einer exakten Lösung und durch eine Gegenüberstellung mit PERT gegeben.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung In dieser Arbeit wird über eine Anwendungsmöglichkeit der Khachiyan-Shor-Algorithmus (Ellipsoid-Algorithmus) im Rahmen des STEM-Verfahrens zur interaktiven Lösung linearer Vektoroptimierungsmodelle berichtet. Auf diese Weise können einige spezifische Nachteile des STEM-Verfahrens in seiner Originalversion vermieden werden. Durch die Verwendung der Euklidischen Norm anstelle der beim STEM-Verfahren üblichen Tschebyscheff-Norm wird garantiert, daß dem Entscheidungsträger nur effiziente Lösungen vorgeschlagen werden. Die numerischen Erfahrungen zeigen, daß der Lösungsaufwand der hier vorgeschlagenen Modifikation des STEM-Verfahrens mit steigender Anzahl von Zielfunktionen weniger stark zunimmt als bei der üblichen Version. Dies gilt jedoch nicht hinsichtlich der allgemeinen Problemgröße.
    Notes: Abstract The research reported in this paper is concerned with an application of the ellipsoid algorithm in the interactive multicriteria linear programming step method (STEM) byBenayoun et al. [1971]. Due to this application we eliminate some drawbacks of the original version of STEM and, moreover, we avoid extra computations connected with sensitivity analysis in every iteration. Specifically, we use the ellipsoid algorithm to minimize the Euclidean norm in the criterion space instead of the Chebyshev norm, which ensures that every solution submitted to the decision maker is efficient. As follows from a computational experiment, in comparison with the application of the simplex method, the proposed modification of STEM shows a smaller increase of the computational effort when the number of criteria increases. However, the absolute computation time becomes worse for problems of larger size.

    Notes: Abstract The present treatment is an attempted method for working out a standard against which the efficiency of any existing system of coal distribution of a country can be studied. The exercise, however, leans heavily on Indian examples. In such a study, gradation of coal because of their differences in ash content and consequently their routing through coal washeries should find an important place. The framework suggested in this paper can handle such extensions. From computational point of view, however, there is a limit to the degree of heterogeneity that can be introduced to the system. The same is true for the regional disaggregation, though, without some amount of it, the results of the model will provide no guideline to the policy-making exercise.

    Notes: Abstract inventory of chemicals in an analytical laboratory is dependent upon the number of samples brought in and the types of analyses performed. Different analyses use different amount and kind of chemicals. The service level of an in-house analytical laboratory is very important to a company. If chemicals are not in stock and analyses not performed, it may cause loss of customers or products in the process development stages. With growing competition, proper control over the chemical inventories is absolutely essential.     Notes: Abstract This paper is concerned with the performance evaluation of I/O-configurations composed of channels and I/0 devices (magnetic disk, drum ...). The question to be answered is: what performance improvement can be expected when the number of channels is increased or when the I/0-devices are multiple-ported instead of single-ported? To that end Markov chain models are developed for three different I/0-configurations. These models are analyzed under the assumption that a stochastic equilibrium is reached, and the probability generating function of the system occupancy is derived. From this function important performance measures, such as throughput and mean system occupancy are obtained as explicit functions of the system parameters. A quantitative comparison between the three alternatives is made.
